Thanksgiving is a great time to reflect on all of the blessings we have in our lives and the things that we are thankful for. With Thanksgiving quickly approaching I have created a couple of activities you can use in your classroom or even at home that will help you and your students take a step back and think about all of the things there are to be thankful for.
At my college we have Writing Academies where we tutor students from different Elementary Schools in our town. My students are so excited for Thanksgiving coming up so I decided to create my lesson for the week on being thankful.
My students and I first created a list of the things that we were most thankful for in our lives. Using our lists we each chose 6 things and wrote them down on the feathers that we would add to our turkeys. After our turkeys were complete we put them on our classroom wall so we could be reminded of everything we were thankful for throughout our lesson.
After my students and I had finished our turkeys we each chose 1 person to write a thankful letter too. My students wrote their letters that they will give to their person on Thanksgiving. My students enjoyed these Thanksgiving day activities and had a blast taking the time to really think about everything they were thankful for.
At the end of the Academy I gave each of my students a bookmark expressing how thankful I was to have them as my students. They loved these bookmarks so decided to share them with y'all! You can download the free printable by clicking on the link below! I printed the bookmarks out on card stock and then laminated them so they would be durable! Enjoy(:
